Words Gain Recognition

Every year, we read thousands of words crafted by students into narratives and poems. They take us to places ranging from suburban streets, coastal landscapes and magical kingdoms. And their characters are as diverse as those we meet or imagine. In all of these stories, sometimes a student will find the right words to connect into sentences and lines that build into engaging paragraphs or stanzas and culminate in engaging pieces.

Last week, we had the pleasure of recognising several students with the Gabrielle Condon Creative Writing Award. The prize is named after a former ERC English teacher who was committed to improving the literacy of boys, and spent many years encouraging their skills through imaginative writing and poetry. Ms Condon was given a bundle of stories and poems selected by English staff from student work completed in 2022. Ms Condon then judged these writings. We thank Ms Condon for volunteering her time and congratulate the following students:

Stage Four Winner: Benedict Carolan
Highly Commended: Daniel Morozov

Stage Five: Winner: Julian Eckermann
Highly Commended: Seth Madden and Oliver Campbell
