First Nations Education Officer
Permanent / part-time (2 – 3 days / week – to be negotiated)
Edmund Rice College is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and highly motivated First Nations Education Officer to join the Identity Team at the commencement of Term 2, 2025 or by negotiation.
Reporting to the Director of Identity, the First Nations Education Officer works with and supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island students and families to deliver effective academic outcomes. The First Nations Education Officer works in collaboration with and under the direction of classroom teachers to support the learning, teaching and wellbeing of First Nations students.
The key responsibilities of the First Nations Education Officer includes but are not limited to the following:
- Working directly with First Nations students to provide support in classrooms across all KLAs.
- In collaboration with the Director of Identity, assist Pastoral Care Teams, Heads of Department (HoDs) and teachers to understand specific needs of First Nations students and their families.
- In collaboration with teachers, develop and review personalised learning plans for First Nations students.
- Focusing on academic care, maintain regular communication with First Nations students, their parents/families, mentors and local community elders, including meetings with external persons and parents/carers of First Nations students as required.
- Undertake required tasks to report on educational outcomes for First Nations students as required.
- Develop and support Student Leadership opportunities for the First Nations students, including through managing the Student Representative Council (SRC) Prefecture.
- Support First Nations students to engage with cultural activities and the local First Nations community.
- Maintaining records of day to day support that is provided to First Nations students.
- In collaboration with the Director of Identity, facilitate participation in UOW and other University programs.
- In collaboration with the Director of Identity, coordinate effective mentoring program/s with an emphasis on improving academic outcomes for First Nations students.
- Providing support for First Nations students on work placements.
- Attend co-curricular and extracurricular activities as required to provide the necessary support for First Nations students.
- Accompanying First Nation students on excursions or camps as required.
- Assisting First Nations students with travel training programs as required.
- Supervising First Nations students in the playground when required.
- Attending professional development and training as required by the College.
- Attending staff and faculty meetings as required.
- Undertake any other duties as directed by the Principal or Director of Identity.
About You
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Strong understanding of First Nation cultures, histories and contemporary issues.
- Demonstrable skills and experience in working with First Nation students.
- Identify as a First Nations person (desirable).
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Flexible and with the ability to support multiple stakeholders.
- High ethical standards, confidentiality and integrity.
- Possess a valid Working with Children Check.
- A commitment to the child safeguarding principles.
- An understanding and commitment to the Mission and Ethos of the College in the Edmund Rice tradition.

Mathematics Teacher 0.8FTE (temporary - 12mths)
Temporary / part-time 0.8FTE – 12mths (covering maternity leave), commencing mid Term 2, 2025 (dated to be confirmed)
The Role
Edmund Rice College, Wollongong is seeking applications for a temporary / part-time Mathematics Teacher to commence mid Term 2, 2025 (date to be confirmed). This temporary position relates to maternity leave coverage for 12 months.
To be considered for this role, you will need to possess the following:
• Relevant tertiary qualifications and approval to teach in NSW, specifically appropriate qualifications for teaching 7-12 Mathematics
• Prior experience in teaching Mathematics
• The ability and willingness to teach Religious Education (desirable)
• An understanding and commitment to the Mission and Ethos of the College
• The ability to relate to boys and a practical knowledge of boys’ education issues and initiatives
• Have highly developed interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively with all staff
• Be an innovative and engaging classroom teacher
• Ability to create a positive learning environment in the classroom and promote student responsibility for learning
• Commitment to academic excellence
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Possess a valid Working with Children Check
• Knowledge and appreciation of WHS
