ERC U13 Rugby League Country Cup Report
The ERC U13 team travelled to Bomaderry to play in the Regional Country Cup Carnival on Tuesday 28 June. In beautiful, mild and sunny conditions the boys dominated their first two games. Game 1 v Corpus Christi ERC prevailed 20 – 0. Callum “crusher” Cooney scored 3 tries in the first half, hitting the gaps off pin point passes from Fletcher “getoffthe” Couchman and Zane “zip zip man” Ashcroft. We maintained good field position with strong hit ups from Riley “biff” Bennett and James “cement” Keranos. Hami “mad dog” Miller made plenty of metres off crisp ball delivery from Levi “young padawan” Fien.
The team improved our ball security in the second game defeating Nowra High 26-6. Aston “the gun” Schott scored a great try backing up Captain Jeremy “green bay” Packer. Strong kick returns from William ‘billy the kid” Morrison and Beau “the brick” Rejske meant we always started our sets on the front foot and in good field position. It was then our fringes that began to dominate with the halves providing slick ball to Jett “rocket” Micevski and Cale “above” Parr who both busted numerous tackles and ate up the metres. Backing them up for each run was our wingers Tallis “raging bull” Brunton and Harvey “the axe” Ackerley.
The semi final was a hard fought affair and unfortunately the lads went down 4-0 to Kiama High with a try after the siren in very unlucky circumstances. Max “slippery” Russell was safe as a bank filling in at fullback whilst Nathan “kicks em clean as a whistle” Washbourne and William “mr perpetual motion” Evans tackled their hearts out with the rest of the team to keep Kiama try-less for all but the final whistle. Whilst losing was disappointing for all concerned, the boys handled the loss well, focussing more on their improved team play throughout the games and being comforted in the knowledge that “we will be better next time!”
Special thanks to Mr Ben Couchman for co-coaching the team, to the parents for their positive support and to Mr “ Max Verstappen” Kane for driving the College bus for us.
