Diocesan Touch Football Carnival
On the 9th March, three Edmund Rice College touch football teams, traveled to North Dalton Ovals to compete in the Wollongong Diocesan Touch Football carnival. It was an exciting day of touch football with the College finishing the highest ranked school for the day. Please find a brief summary of each of the three teams.
Opens:
The Opens team, captained by Alec Rochaix, competed strongly in 8 games throughout the day. It was a battle with the other 2 strong teams. Throughout the day the boys showed some dazzling skills and speed. Unfortunately we just missed out on winning the day by 3 points. Congratulations to the following Open boys for conducting themselves in a competitive and composed manner throughout the day.
TEAM: Alec Rochaix, Beau Devlin, Jack Atkins, Aidan Testa, Jye Barnes, Kascha Cervoni, Tom Kirk, Daniel Meafou, Chase Grant, Chad O’Brien, Leo Valentineti.
U15’s
The under 15’s team had an up and down day. They started well, winning their first 4 games before losing in a close game (1 – 0) in round 6. The team lost another close game (3 – 2) in round 7. Despite their disappointment with two close losses, the leaders in the group pulled the team together, put their disappointment behind them and rose to the occasion to finish the day with a decisive win. The U15’s finished 2nd place overall due to their points differential. The boys showed that they possessed maturity, grit and determination belying their young age. They will be stronger for the experience and a better team next year we have no doubt.
TEAM: Cooper Morrison, CJ Meafou, Ashton Moran, Daniel Duggan, Tom Voase, Peter Pantsos, Baxter Towel, Zane Ashcroft, Fletcher Couchman, Isaac Oldfield and Max Russel.
U13’s
For most of the Under 13’s team this was the first competitive day of school Touch Football. Competing against 8 other regional Catholic schools the team took their time to acclimatise to the conditions losing the first game to St Johns. However, once settled and familiar with each other’s style of play the team started to play some impressive Edmund RIce Touch Football. They managed to draw the next two games and win the remaining five to ultimately finish as runners up for the day calculated on total points. Well done Under 13’s we are currently excited to see you excel at future carnivals.
TEAM: Harvey Ackerley (c), Sonny Wheeler, William Morrison, Daniel Button, Sam McMahon, Sonnet Gielisse, Jemison Hanson, Orlando Hunt, Jedd Thompson, Alex Sjostedt.
Congratulations to all students for proudly representing the College. Additionally, a special congratulation go to the following boys from the Opens and U15’s for being selected in the Wollongong Diocesan Touch Team to compete in April at the NSWCCC at Wagga Wagga over 2 days:
Opens: Alec Rochaix, Jye Barnes
U15’s: Cooper Morrison, Fletcher Couchman, Zane Ashcroft, Daniel Duggan
