Each year over 900 students across the country compete in the Rostrum Voice of Youth Public Speaking Competition. After a Speak Off held at the College a few weeks earlier, five of our speakers, Sam Stevin, Daniel Morozov and Isaac Mitrevski (all of Year 8), and Patrick Sirianni (Year 11) and Henry Jones (Year 10) travelled to Smith Hill High School to compete in the Regional heat of the competition. They gave impassioned, informed and interesting speeches on topics such as “Harmony”, “Voice for the Voiceless”, “A Diamond in the Rough”, and “A Change Worth Making”. Congratulations to Isaac Mitrevski who came Runner Up with his speech on media inspired by the topic “Behind the Lens”.
In more Public Speaking news, the Inaugural Edmund Rice College House Public Speaking competition will be held in Founders Week, Week Two, Term Two. Students from Years 7-10 are encouraged to put their names forward to compete in this event. Be the first to help your House win the Public Speaking Shield as well as gain individual honours.
