On the 29th of July the Opens Futsal State Championships were held at Hawkesbury PCYC. This tournament consisted of the top 25 schools in the state for Futsal which was set to be a very busy and competitive day of Futsal.
The Edmund Rice squad started the day full of energy against Belmore Boys HS with a dominant 5-0 victory which set the tone for the rest of the day. The remaining group fixtures consisted of a 4-1 win over Emanuel High School, 5-0 against Wagga Wagga Christian College and a 6-1 win over Glenwood High.
The Quarter Final against Epping Boys High School was a 2-1 thriller with the Edmund Rice squad taking the victory via a golden goal in added time from marksman Matthew Jackson. The team then progressed to the Semi-Final against Homebush Boys High School where again Edmund Rice sealed the victory 4-2, however losing Matthew Jackson in the final minutes due to a second yellow card. The Grand Final against Endeavour Sports High finished 3-2 in favour of Endeavour with a devastating golden goal in the final minutes.
Congratulations to all the boys in this team, who showed passion and persistence in each and every game to finish second best in the whole of NSW. We look forward to seeing what this squad can achieve next year as most of the players are age eligible for 2023.
