Once again our team won through the local Diocesan Teams Tennis Championship in a resounding fashion and moved to the next level at the CCC Championships to run in Bathurst on the 30th of May.
After the long trip to Bathurst the team was faced with a foggy near zero degree morning.
Fortunately ERC had a first round bye due to our seeding in the competition which let the boys stay warm and let the fog lift a little before the first game against St John’s College Lismore.
This match saw our team of Bailey Abela, Ari Ganassin, Aston Rowles and Deni Dimov put on a masterful display, defeating St Johns 6 sets to nil and allowing Lismore to only score 5 games in the whole match.
The semi final was the next match to be played and this was against St Columba’s College Parramatta. This was to be a much different match, along with the tougher competition the weather was also coming in with wind, rain and even hail. Eventually the match and day was halted with the score hanging in the balance with only one set completed.
The remainder of the matches were rescheduled to the following Monday at the Parramatta Tennis Centre where the weather was far more hospitable, with the day being warm and sunny.
Unfortunately our team were unable to topple their opposition and finished the day with a 6 set to 2 loss.
We did medal with this result though, with the boys receiving Bronze medals for their performance.
During the course of both days our boys displayed great spirit and marvelous Tennis skills.
Special mention must also be made regarding our reserve player Zane Cross who made the trip to both venues to support the team and making himself ready for his entry into the main team next year.
In recent years our Teams have been progressing further through the State competition, and we hope that next year will see an even greater improvement.
Congratulations to our wonderful Tennis team.
