U14s NSW State Futsal Finals – Summary

Edmund Rice College emerged victorious in the U14 NSW Futsal Championship, showcasing their remarkable skills, determination and resilience throughout the tournament. The journey to the title involved six challenging group games, followed by a series of knockout rounds.

In the group stage, Edmund Rice College demonstrated their prowess by winning five of their six games, progressing to the knockout rounds. The teams solid defence saw them only concede 4 goals in their 6 group match games, showcasing their resolute defence was going to be pivotal to their run in the tournament and the foundation they were going to build on.

Advancing to the quarter-finals, they faced off against a tough opponent in Matraville Sports High. The boys started off strong going up 2-0, showcasing their composure under pressure and prolific nature in front of goal. The match was a closely contested battle, although Edmund Rice College managed to secure a crucial win 3-1, earning them a spot in the semi-finals.

In the semi-final clash, they continued to stick to the game plan, and play with passion and determination, securing their place in the final with a well-deserved victory 2-1 over an extremely strong Mamre Anglican College. The semi final was a thrilling encounter as the scores were locked up and 1-1 with seconds to go, before Lucas Tancevski rolled his defender, smashing the ball into the crossbar bouncing just over the line to secure Edmund Rice College a place in the final against another strong opponent in Central Coast Sports High.

Edmund Rice College started the final on the front foot, with the instructions to go out, attack and score the first goal. After 4 minutes, Dylan Rodrigues broke the deadlock with a fantastic finish. Edmund Rice doubled their advantage with a supreme strike by Jarrah Longbottom to have one hand on the trophy. A goal to Central Coast Sports High put the pressure back on Edmund Rice, but their solid defence, hard working attitude and a last ditch effort to clear the ball off the line by Christian Ugonotti, Edmund Rice College ultimately triumphant 2-1 winners. The victory was a testament to the boys hard work, dedication, and the outstanding Futsal talent of their players.

Edmund Rice College’s U14 Futsal team showcased their true potential throughout the tournament, demonstrating that success is the result of not just talent but also teamwork, perseverance, and a winning spirit. Their victory in the U14 NSW Futsal Championship will undoubtedly be celebrated as a remarkable achievement for the school and its talented young footballers.
