On Monday 15th May, 6 students travelled independently to Bathurst to trial for the NSWCCC Opens and U16’s Hockey Teams. With a large number of very strong hockey talented students, 4 of the students from ERC were selected in the NSWCCC Hockey Teams. Congratulations to Hamish O’Neill and Timothy Arthur who made the Open’s Team and Henry Jones and Bailey Everatt who were selected in the U16’s.
Then on Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th May, was the NSWCCC Hockey Championships where our College team, captained by Hamish O’Neill, competed in the Opens Division in Bathurst. With a thick fog the team had a very successful first day of competition, winning all three games. On Wednesday, the boys went down 2-1 in their final round game which saw them meet a very strong Red Bend in the Semi-finals. Even with some extremely strong defence the team went down to the team that ended up winning the grand-final.
The team should be very pleased with their effort, coming 3rd, as they were competing against other teams that were a lot older in average age. Hockey representation looks strong for the next few years with a wealth of talent coming through.
A special mention to Henry Jones who took a leadership role both on and off the field in guiding these young hockey players and leading by example.
Team list:
Hamish O’Neill, Henry Jones, Bailey Everatt, Finn Molloy, Timothy Arthur, Zeke Thompson, Tyler Oliver, Riley Edgar, Malachy Hurley, Harrison Clarke, Markian Riznyk, Febin Binoy, Magnus Kersten
