How to Bounce Back from a Disappointing Assignment Mark
The following offers insights on how students can recover after receiving an assessment result that leaves them dissatisfied and turn it into a learning experience:
Analyse and Understand the Feedback
When you son receives his assessment back, encourage him to take the time to review the feedback provided by his teacher.
Ask the following questions:
- Did you meet all the criteria outlined in the assessment?
- What specific feedback did your teacher provide?
- Do you fully comprehend the feedback given?
- Can you identify the reasons behind the mark you received?
Learn and Adapt
Improvement comes from learning from mistakes and taking action to rectify them. Consider these steps:
- Re-do the Assessment: Recommend to your son to consider revisiting parts of the assessment and resubmitting them.
- Seek Inspiration: Ask your on to reviews exemplar responses. This will assist them to understand what elements contributed to their success and identify areas to work on.
- Seek Early Feedback: For your son’s next assessment, encourage your son to share his draft with his teacher before the due date
Remember, your son’s academic journey is about learning and growth. Encourage your son to embrace every assessment as an opportunity to hone their skills and become a better learner. Remind them to stay persistent. With a positive attitude and willingness to learn, they’ll be better prepared to face future challenges and achieve their goals.
Project Based Learning at ERC
During the week students in Stage 4 participated in Project Based Learning experiences. The Year 7 Enrichment Class investigated the mathematics and science behind launching a rocket. The day culminated in students launching rockets on Keira Park. Year 8 History students demonstrated their knowledge of the Renaissance through collaborating to create Escape Rooms. Thank you to our Enrichment Coordinator, Ms Shumack, for her organisation of the days and all teachers and students involved. A full coverage of the PBL experiences will be included in our next College newsletter.
Minimum Standards
Congratulations to our Year 10 students on the Numeracy Results in the recent Minimum Standards Test. 98% of students achieved minimum standard. We are waiting for the Writing results and the Reading Test will be administered during Week 10 this term.
