Deepening a Gospel Spirituality
It is fitting that the week during which students and staff have undertaken the Ration Challenge ends with the Solemnity of The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Catholic church calendar. St. Pope John Paul II, who had a great devotion to the Sacred Heart, said, “This feast reminds us of the mystery of the love of God for the people of all times.”
Everyday when we pray in our community we end with Live Jesus in our Hearts. Forever. So what we are really saying is that we pray that we can learn to love like Jesus. As we focus on what it means to live a Gospel Spirituality, we take the example of Jesus who stood on the side of the poor and marginalised in every situation. Edmund Rice was following that example of faith in God and generosity for all of God’s people.
Year 9 Pastoral Group Mass
On Tuesday Fr James Arblaster joined the Year 9 cohort to celebrate Mass together on the feast of St Anthony of Padua. Their Pastoral theme is ‘Be Transformed’ and takes inspiration from the power of the gospel to transform our lives, like it did to Anthony and even Edmund Rice himself. Fr James reflected on the fact that when we go to mass we are giving ourselves the opportunity to be transformed and changed, particularly in the reception of the Eucharist. As a Catholic school, we invite all people into the story of Jesus and the opportunity to be transformed into all that God intends you to be. Fr James is currently serving in the Lumen Christi parish at the Cathedral, St Brigid’s and St John Vianney’s churches. He extends the invitation to all to join him.
