ERC Updates

ERC Surfing

Last Friday we were finally able to run the ERC Surfing Championships for 2020. Like all other sports we were impacted by Covid-19 and all our external surfing events cancelled for 2020. Having run our OSSA training day back in March we were looking like being unable to run our ERC Championships, however given recent easing of restrictions we could proceed albeit without our Year 12 students who are undertaking their HSC exams.

The day was blessed with fun two-foot surf at North Wollongong beach, the early morning high tide providing a good mix of left and right peaks which the boys took to enthusiastically. The Opens set the standard early with some excellent surfing in the early rounds, highlighted by the unorthodox tandem ride by Mathias Decker and Harrison Agnew. This was followed by the Juniors who were surfing well, Jacob Pucillo showing some outstanding form before breaking his board mid heat and managing to progress through to the final on a borrowed board.

The standard of surfing increased as we moved into the semi’s and finals, the students showing excellent sportsmanship along the way. The Junior final was hotly contested with Jack Wilson taking out the title over Kade Smith second, Jake Potter third and Jacob Pucillo in fourth. The Opens final was another close one with only a couple of points separating the field. Harrison Agnew continued his dominance of the day taking out the coveted opens title, closely followed by Max Subotic in second, Baiden Darby in third and Kye Malby in fourth.

I’d like to thank Mr Tognetti and all the students for a great day of surfing.
