ERC Updates

Diocesan Tennis Championships

After a week of unsettled and wet weather we were blessed with a warm, dry and wind free day for the tennis to be conducted on. The teams started to filter into the Beaton Park courts around 8.30am and by 9.00 we had managed to brief the players and team managers/coaches regarding the expectations of the day. When play commenced it was clear that many of the schools had lost their senior players from last year and were in a rebuilding phase with many fresh new faces being present.

Our boys presented a strong team from last year with repeat performances from Bailey Abela, Ari Ganassin, Aston Rowles with Deni Dimov and Zane Cross being our newest recruits.

The ERC team won its first round match very one sided due to the ongoing experience of some of the team. Defeating Corpus Christi 23 games to 6.

ERC continued its hot form in the second round defeating St Josephs 5 sets/30 games to 0 sets/0 games.

The final was shaping up to be a great match and there was some fantastic tennis played by both sides. The players from Holy Spirit made every shot count but in the end the more experienced Edmund Rice team were able to shut them down at almost every key moment due to their experience and very strategic play. ERC defeated Holy Spirit 6 sets/36 games to 0 sets/1 game

The ERC team were excellent ambassadors for the College, and we gracious winners of the tournament. Our team will now try to repeat their dominant performance at the CCC championships which will be held later this year. We wish them the best of luck at what will be a tough tournament.
