Edmund Rice College 7-10 NSWCCC (Team 1)

On the 31st March the Edmund Rice under 16’s team travelled to Kooringa Reserve, Raby to compete in the 7-10 NSWCCC Pathways Football Championships. The weather was kind to us on the day despite the rain earlier in the week, and games were played in perfect Autumn conditions. This was the first year that Edmund Rice entered two teams in this competition (Team 1 and 2).

Coming to this event as last year’s runners up, the Edmund Rice (1) boys were filled with positive energy and hoped to maintain a strong stance in this competition. The day went well with Edmund Rice winning all pool fixtures against Mount Carmel, St. Benedict’s, Magdalene, and John Terry without conceding a goal. Unfortunately, in the semi final against Holy Spirit College the boys fell short and lost in a riveting penalty shootout. This squad will however progress to the next knockout stage of this competition where they will be ready to continue this great run of form.

ERC Team 1 Squad List:

Edmund Rice College 7-10 NSWCCC (Team 2)

The second U16’s team were a late addition to the 7-10 Pathway Division therefore had minimal training sessions together as a team. This didn’t show as when the boys took the pitch against St John’s in our first game it was like they had played together for years. Some solid defence from our back four and Archie Oyston in goals kept us in the game and with minimal attacking chances, the game ended 0-0. Game two was against a strong Corpus Christi side but the boys held their own, unfortunately going down 2-0. Game three saw the team take on the eventual runners-up Holy Spirit and we were unlucky to draw the match 1-1 as we were on top for the majority of the match. Nice skill from William Soster with a classy goal chipping the keeper to give us the lead only to concede a screamer from Holy Spirit in the last minute. Our final group game resulted in an uplifting win against St Joseph’s thanks again to William Soster’s clinical finishing in front of goal and Lachlan Godbee’s tireless efforts on the wing. That win helped us finish third of Pool B therefore getting another game, 5th place playoff against Magdalene. The boys came out full of energy with Rafael Johns Murphy scoring in the first minute with a fearless finish. Unfortunately, Magdalene replied quickly however we did enough to hold on for a 1-1 draw. Great performance all around from the boys representing the College with pride. They should all be very proud of their efforts.

ERC Team 2 Squad List:
Archie Oyston, Joshua Edwards, Dylan Belokoski, Alex Da Rocha, Joshua Hailstone, William Ursell, Lachlan Godbee, Max Oyston, Cristian Mitreski, Jonah Moretti, Michael Marijan, Rafael Johns Murphy, Riley Wilton, William Soster, Cooper Cavdarovski, Saxon Gerovasilis, Marc Todoroski. – Coach Mr. Fowler

Edmund Rice College Under 13’s (Team 1 – Red)

On the 31st March the Edmund Rice under 13’s Red team travelled to Kooringa Reserve, Raby to compete in the U13 Wollongong Diocese Football Championship the Edmund Rice Red team had a fantastic start to the day, winning all 4 group games without conceding a goal from open play, scoring 18 goals along the way. In the semi final, Edmund Rice Red came up against a strong Magdalene College in the semi final where the team played its best game of the tournament to come through convincing winners 4-0.

The final saw a replay of the third group game where Edmund Rice Red came up against Mount Carmel Catholic College. A game where both sides came with an attacking mindset to score goals which saw the final become a goal fest. An exhilarating final saw fantastic 6 goals where unfortunately Edmund Rice Red lost 3-2. A narrow final defeat shouldn’t take away from Edmund Rice Red’s efforts, playing some fantastic, free flowy football all day. Mr Crapis was extremely proud of the way both Edmund Rice teams played throughout the day, especially the way all students conducted themselves and the sportsmanship displayed. It was a great start to the U13 journey of football at the College.

Edmund Rice College Under 13’s (Team 2)

Edmund Rice U13 Black was the second squad to be introduced to the U13’s competition from our College. With no training sessions beyond the trials for team selection, the squad attended the day with excitement to finally have the opportunity to play together as a team. Their first challenge saw them facing a tough opponent in St. Benedict’s, which resulted in a 1-0 loss in which our squad certainly held their own as they began forming strong connections out on the pitch together as a team. In game two, the team faced a talented Holy Spirit side, who were very efficient on the counter which saw our squad get stung by three quick goals against the run of play resulting in a 3-0 defeat. As game three came around, it saw ERC U13 Black regroup after the previous match and put on a fantastic performance against a strong Magdalene squad. Late in the game Jeng and Riley linked up with a beautiful set of passes to catch Magdalene on the break and score the equaliser to end the game a 1-1 draw. ERC U13 Black saved their best game for last in the group games, where it seemed the team finally clicked and played some fantastic football. This game ended in a 1-0 victory over St Joseph’s, following a spectacular free kick finish from Eamon, striking it in off the post from 20 yards out. Our run in the group games placed the team into the playoffs against St Johns. Another highly competitive game ended in a 1-0 defeat after conceding a late goal, mainly due to fatigue amongst the squad after multiple fast paced, high effort games throughout the day. ERC U13 Black should be extremely proud of their efforts, representing the college with pride.
