Futsal – South Coast Region Champs Summary

U14s: On Wednesday the 24th of May, 17 students from Years 7 to 8 represented the College at the South Coast Regional Futsal School Championships. Edmund Rice College had 2 teams participating in the competition, one consisting of only Year 7s, and the other Year 8s. Both teams were extremely successful on the day, both going undefeated up until the final where they faced one another. In the all Edmund Rice final it was the Year 8 team that came out on top in the tightly contested match beating the Year 7 team 4-2. Both teams have progressed to the NSW All Schools Futsal Competition that will take place later in the year.

U16s: On Thursday the 25th of May, 9 students represented the College at the South Coast Regional Futsal School Championships. The boys started the day off slowly struggling to find their form until the last game of the group stage where they comfortably beat Holy Spirit 5-1, with this game proving to be a turning point in the boys’ day. After finishing 2nd in their group they progressed to the finals where they won both their quarter and semi finals with ease. In the final they faced Keira High, a side which they had lost to earlier in the day 1-0. Eager to not lose again the Edmund Rice boys came out firing, and won convincingly 3-0. The U16s will now compete in the NSW All Schools Futsal Competition that will take place later in the year.

Opens: On Friday the 26th of May, 9 senior students represented the College at the South Coast Regional Futsal School Championships. Coming into the day full of confidence the Edmund Rice boys breezed through the competition finishing top of their group having won all 4 of their games. The boys carried their fantastic form into the finals running out winners in both the quarter and semi finals after beating Smiths Hill and Lake Ginninderra. ERC then faced a second Lake Ginninderra side in the final in what proved to be their toughest match of the day. The Edmund Rice team were able to come away with a narrow 2-1 win in a game they once again dominated. With the Edmund Rice Opens team winning the final, it completed a clean sweep for the College, and means they have also progressed to the NSW All Schools Futsal Competition.
