ERC Vocal Ensemble

On Tuesday the 21st June, the ERC Vocal Ensemble was launched. Under the guidance of Kate Whitaker from the Wollongong Conservatorium, the students started with some fun warm up activities before learning two pieces. The first was a medieval piece and the second an African piece which allowed the boys to explore two part harmonies. The results were quite magical! The afternoon was also attended by David Francis, CEO of the Wollongong Conservatorium, Mr Gerry Sozio and Mr Greg Haybittle. The Vocal Ensemble will continue next Term beginning in Week 2 on Tuesday afternoons in J3 from 2.10-2.55pm, all students are welcome to join.

Year 11 Ceramics Excursion

On Wednesday the students in the Year 11 1 Unit Ceramics Course travelled to the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney to see the exhibition ‘Clay Dynasty’ which is an exhibition celebrating studio ceramics in Australia shaped by three generations of makers: from the 1960s pioneers who transformed the functional pottery tradition to contemporary ceramic artists who continue to push the medium.

We travelled by train to Central and walked past the Dr Chau Chak Wing building by Frank Gehry on the old Goods Line to the Powerhouse. The exhibition was engaging for the students who saw over 400 works of pottery by 160 Australian ceramicists created in the past 50 years. The students were intrigued to see in real life the ceramic works they studied in class. The exhibition also inspired the students with a range of ideas and techniques for them to apply back in the classroom to their own works. After lunch in Darling Harbour we walked back to Central via Topotea a Chinese Teahouse in Chinatown, sampled green tea and saw a myriad of exquisite and beautifully crafted tea cups, saucers and bowls that gave the students further impetus for inspiration for their own work next term.
