As we approach National Close the Gap Day on March 18th, I challenge everyone to reflect on their understanding of health and how we can all work together towards improving health for Aboriginal Australia.
Although our health is greatly influenced by our political, historical, cultural and social determinants of health – we must acknowledge the role our connection to Country, connection to culture, kinship, community and spirituality has on not just us as individuals but our families and community as a whole.
As Aboriginal people our resilience and self determination is what defines us, not the gaps in our national health data. Through reciprocal partnerships we can share this collective journey to ensure healthy equitable lives for all Australians.
