ENRICHMENT TESTS

Over 70 Year 6 students from many primary schools recently sat the 2024 Year 7 Enrichment Class test at the College. It was wonderful to welcome so many Year 6 students and their families to the College. The students sat the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT), an assessment that measures reasoning skills. The test focuses on a student’s ability to display cognitive abilities including reasoning and problem solving using verbal, quantitative and spatial (non-verbal) techniques. Under the leadership of our Enrichment Coordinator, Ms Emma Shumack, the College provides many Enrichment experiences for our students, both curricula and extra-curricular.

YEAR 10 INTO 11 SUBJECT SELECTION PARENT EVENING

Parents/Carers of Year 10 students are invited to the Year 10 into 11 Subject Selection Parent Information Evening on Wednesday 24 May 2023. The evening will commence at 6:00pm and will be conducted in the Br Pelin Hall. The presentation is expected to finish by 7:00pm. We strongly encourage at least one parent/carer from each family to attend, together with their son, to gather information about the requirements to complete Stage 6 (Years 11 and 12) at the College and the subject selection process. Parents/carers and students will also have the opportunity to ask questions after the presentations. Please click here to access the Year 10 into 11 Information Booklet and the VET Student Handbook.

Mr Garry Cajar (Careers Teacher) will be available from 5.00pm in the Br Pelin Hall to answer any questions before the information session.

ELEVATE STUDY SKILLS SESSION – YEAR 11

During extended Pastoral Care time on Tuesday 9 May, Elevate Education spoke to the Year 11 cohort about ways to succeed academically and go beyond. It was an incredibly enriching experience. The engaging and knowledgeable presenters captivated our attention from the moment they started speaking. They shared valuable study techniques, time management strategies and effective exam preparation methods that resonated with all of us. What I and a lot of the other boys liked was the interactive nature of the session which made it even more enjoyable and helped us grasp the concepts easily whilst enjoying ourselves along the way. For myself personally, with the pressure of school on my mind, it was amazing to develop an idea of how to increase efficiency and have an effective education so we could soon ‘Learn, Master and Create’ our own individual path of study. It was a great opportunity, and through the tips I got out of it, I am grateful that our school provided such an experience for us that will benefit us both now and in the long term. Raul Siljeg – Year 11 student.

PARENT ELEVATE EDUCATION SESSION

Elevate Education’s next free webinar will be taking place on Wednesday 24 May 2023, titled ‘Ask Elevate Anything’. This is a good opportunity to ask any questions you feel have been unanswered by Elevate in their webinars so far, whether that relates to your child’s study space, their motivation levels or the way they study.

Wednesday 24th May @ 6:30pm (AEST)
