Dear Parents and Carers,
I offer you the following reflection as we commence a new school Term together:
Community
Lord we come before You, not alone,
But in the company of one another.
As we share our happiness with each other,
It becomes greater.
As we share our burdens with each other,
Their weight becomes possible to bear.
Soften our hearts to always receive.
For in giving and receiving
We learn to love and be loved,
And we learn the truth of Your love.
Amen

Our College community gathered for our annual ANZAC Day commemorative liturgy earlier today. A ceremony where we took great pride in showing our respect for the past and present ANZACs. During this solemn occasion, we reflected not only on those who have made the supreme sacrifice but also on all servicemen and women who have fought to preserve the freedoms we all enjoy today. Throughout our College’s ninety-six years of history, over 200 ERC graduates have served our nation in the armed forces during international conflicts; it was wonderful that former students Corporal Sam Barlow, Ron Wessell, John Wise and Ron Woods were able to be present with us this morning. On behalf of the College, I wish to thank our special guests, including Mr Ian Birch, the President of the Illawarra Sub-Branch for Vietnam Veterans. I also wish to acknowledge our student leaders and cadets who led our ceremony with such reverence. Thank you also to College Vice-Captain Elijah Hurley and SRC Member Henry Jones, who represented the young people of the Illawarra earlier this week by speaking and laying wreaths at the Vietnam Veterans ANZAC Eve service at the war memorial at Flagstaff Hill.

Next week is a big one with two major upcoming College events. On Thursday 5th May, the Annual P&F Mothers Day High Tea will be held in the ERC Centre between 3.00pm – 5.00pm. This once again promises to be a joyful celebration where the boys of ERC can share a high tea with their mothers and say “thank you” for their mum’s unconditional love and support. Registrations for this event have now closed.
The following day the College will celebrate Founders’ Day. The Feast Day of Blessed Edmund Rice is an opportunity to acknowledge our founding patron and express our school spirit and pride in our charism. Thank you to the senior SRC students who have assisted in designing such a fun carnival celebration for all students and staff.
Live Jesus in our hearts – forever.
