Outdoor Education

The College Outdoor Education Programme in Years 7-10, combined with the Retreat Programme in Years 11-12 and the varied co-curricular activities which take place outside the classroom environment, form an integral part of the total education and pastoral experience.

In particular, the Outdoor Education Programme focuses in a developing manner, on the process of building on the relationships between students and staff. This programme begins in Year 7 as part of the Peer Support process and continues through changing environments and challenging experiences in Years 8, 9 and 10. The cost of this COMPULSORY programme is incorporated within the school fees structure.

Academic Year Activity
Year 7 Orientation Camps
 (early in Term 1)
Year 8 Activities Camp 
(3 days / 2 Nights) for the whole year group
Year 9 Learn to Ski Trip (Optional) 6 days / 5 nights learning to ski/snowboard at Thredbo OR Outdoor Camp for 4 days / 3 nights
Year 10 Wilderness Camp 
(5 days / 4 nights) for the whole year group
Year 11 & 12 Students in Years 11 and 12 are required to attend their Retreats and Reflective Programme

Edmund Rice College provides students with the opportunity to represent in the following sports:- 



Athletics, AFL, Baseball, Basketball, Cricket, Cross Country, Diving, Golf, Hockey, Mountain Bike Riding, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Sailing, Soccer, Softball, Surfing, Swimming, Tennis, Touch Football, Triathlon, Volleyball and Water Polo.
