As you are aware, Edmund Rice College runs a Christian Service-Learning Programme for all Year 11 students. Your son will participate in a service partnership between Hospitality and the Community Centre Meals Programme of Wesley Uniting Church on the Mall.

This placement will involve a number of occasions throughout the year when the students will prepare a meal in the Hospitality facilities at the College and then travel by car to the community centre in town to serve the meal to disadvantaged people. This opportunity is provided by Mrs McDonell and Ms Codey. By completing the programme, the students will fulfil the requirements of their Christian Service-Learning responsibility.

The details of the placement are as follows:

  • Students must be at the Hospitality kitchen by 8.15am on the day.
  • Full chef’s uniform is to be worn.
  • Students will prepare food at the College and then be driven by Mrs McDonell or Ms Codey to the Wesley Uniting Church on the Mall in town to prepare the room for lunch.
  • Lunch will be served and once the site is cleaned up, the students will return to the College to finish cleaning up the kitchen here.
  • The appointed dates are:

Term 1:    Wednesday 25th March or Wednesday 1st April

Term 2:    Wednesday 3rd June or Friday 5th June

Term 3:    Wednesday 19th August or Friday 21st August

Term 4:    Wednesday 28th October or Friday 30th October

Please sign the Permission Slip below and have your son return it to Mrs McDonell by Monday 23rd March. If, at any time, you have any questions or problems arising from the placement, please feel free to contact Mrs McDonell at the College on 4228 4344. We are hopeful that both the Agency and the students will benefit from this service. The College looks forward to their service reports.
